Program Dates: Sunday, July 11, through Saturday, August 7, in Shanghai
A four-week intensive exposure to China through working closely with community service organizations in Shanghai combined with half the time spent learning and using Mandarin.
Students will typically spend their mornings learning and practicing their Mandarin in small tutorials of four to five students taught by native-speakers trained in teaching the Mandarin to non-native speakers and their afternoons working with local community service organizations in such wide-ranging projects as environmental quality, tutoring children of migrant workers, protecting wildlife, and providing support for the disadvantaged.
In the evening, a wide selection of speakers from business, government, academia, and representatives from various social and ethnic groups in each country make presentations to the students and engage in active question and answer sessions.
Three excursions and two two-night homestays will further enable the students to understand more about China.
