Travel Extension Dates: Thursday, August 4, through Wednesday, August 17
(For family members of program participants)
Sunday, August 7 through Wednesday, August 17 (Parents: August 4-17, Students: August 7-17)
(For students in the Perspectives China programs who will join the travel extension after the completion of their program in Shanghai on August 7)

Following their four weeks in Shanghai, the travel extension will enable students to see dramatically different parts of China with the new perspectives gained from their intensive learning in Shanghai.   Family members are invited to join the travel extension and experience China along with their children in a two-week trip designed in the learning style of Foundation Global Education.

The Travel Extension begins and ends in Shanghai on the published dates, but families may well choose to arrive earlier or extend their visit to China beyond these dates.

The official travel extension program begins on a free day for the students in the programs, enabling the students to meet and greet their family members on their arrival in Shanghai.   Family members may, if they choose, be present to hear the final presentations of the students as they communicate what they have gained from their experiences in Shanghai over the preceding four weeks.   The next day is departure day for the programs and the travel extension group will take the high-speed, overnight train to Beijing, where they will check in early at their hotel, have breakfast, and start their three days in the capital city featuring visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and other key sights.   Another overnight train ride will take the group to Xi・an, the city that served as the imperial capital of China longer than any other city and, of course, home to the Terracotta Warriors of Emperor Qinshihuang.   Xi・an also features the most complete Ming Dynasty city wall as well as a Muslim Quarter that dates to when Xi・an was the eastern terminus of the Silk Road.   After two nights in Xi・an, the group will fly to Hangzhou to visit one of China・s most beautiful and important cities.   Hangzhou, home to West Lake, the most famous lake in China, and Longjing Tea, one of China・s great teas, is the capital of Zhejiang Province.   Two days later, participants will return to Shanghai for some free time to see anything previously missed and the chance to share experiences at the farewell dinner.

The travel extension will be led by one of the administrator/teachers from the programs with the assistance of Chinese college students who have served as Teaching Assistants in the programs, thus assuring a continuity in the combination of experience and information that characterizes Foundation Global Education programs.

The price of the China Travel Extension is US$ 1,990 (eleven days) for students and US$ 2,690 (fourteen days) for adults.  The price covers all lodging (double-room occupancy), transportation, food, entrance fees, guides, and tips.  There will be an additional supplement for those who require a single room.
