Breakfast will be available from 7:40 to 8:25 and Morning Meeting will begin at 8:30.   This half-hour meeting of everyone in the program is an important start for the day.   Announcements will be made, but more importantly students will have a chance to report on the previous day¡¦s experiences or discuss current topics.

Mornings will usually be devoted to going out into the cities on field studies, sometimes to see famous sites, sometimes to hear local experts, and sometimes to interview people on topics relating to one of the classes.

After lunch at 1:00, two periods will be scheduled with classes based on the basic themes of the program.   Workshops will follow and dinner is served at 7:30.

On most evenings there will be special programs: speakers on such topics as town planning and public health, Indian fashion and textile design, Indian astronomy and Vedic math; student and TA panels discussing the Indian education system or comparing Indian popular music with that in the West, viewing and discussing an Indian film, or students, TAs, and faculty sharing from their daily journals.   Students will sign in to their residences by 10:30.

  • Four mornings a week small groups will meet to learn and practice yoga with an Indian master.
  • In Jaipur there will be a threeday, two-night homestay and a one-day excursion to a village.
  • During the excursions to Delhi and Udaipur, there will be more exploring and less scheduled class time.
  • Daily schedules vary depending on the city and on the field excursions, but every day will enhance the understanding of the basic themes of the whole program
