Our story begins with Foundation Programs back in 2001, when we launched our first Glimpses of
China cultural exposure program to the West, bringing together high-achieving students from the
top secondary schools around the world to Shanghai each summer for intensive study about
contemporary China.
In promoting to the best students from the West over the years, we have researched and maintained
contact with 1,000+ leading independent / state day / boarding secondary schools around the
world, with 400-500 campus visits each year in North America and Europe presenting to faculty
members and student bodies.
Unknowingly at the time, we have in effect been accumulating a rare knowledge base of the
cultures and characters of many of the world's finest secondary schools, gaining "insider views"
that are mostly beyond what outsiders can typically get from reading through web sites or
speaking with admissions staff alone.
Through our admission process each year, we feel equally privileged to have glanced into the
world of these outstanding teenagers and their family upbringing. In reviewing their
applications, we have the opportunity to delve into their profiles and reflect upon their own
words, thoughts, and aspirations. We interview them, hear how they present themselves, and listen
to their perspectives on life and views on the world. We speak with the parents and learn about
the past and form a picture on how the students have become what they are today. Many of our
alumni have since graduated from their secondary schools and entered some of the world's most
renowned universities; over 30% of them are now studying at the Select 20 universities, 50% of
whom in Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge alone. Though their success can
hardly be generalized into any simple formula, we do observe some common threads behind their
many worthy stories.
Our objective behind Foundation Education Services is to share what we have learned over the
years about the top schools in the West and the type of elite students that these schools
educate. In so doing, we aim to help families who are considering overseas education to identify
and select the schools that best fit the student's needs and realize the student's potential, and
ultimately develop the student into the type of confident, eloquent, poised gentleman / lady that
we have had the privilege of interacting with at so many of our campus visits and our Glimpses of
China program.
Note: Our Select 20 universities are composed of the top 16 US and the top 4 UK universities
according to the latest rankings by US News & World Report and The Times respectively. As of
April 2009, our list of Select 20 universities consists of:
